The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market is the quintessential San Francisco market. The Saturday market is always bustling. We frequent this one the most, by far, due to our proximity. There is a good variety of produce, hot food, and packaged food vendors. You will not leave hungry!
The Basics
Location: Ferry Building, Embarcadero and Market Streets, San Francisco
Hours: Saturday (8 am – 2 pm) and Tuesday & Thursday (10 am – 2 pm)
Size: Large. 100+ vendors (Saturday)
Seasonality: Year-round
Organization: Foodwise
My Favorite Vendors
Primavera (aka, vendor of the best chilaquiles you'll ever have): If you know, you know. Their booth doesn't even have a sign. Get an order of the chilaquiles and maybe a taco or two. The scrambled eggs are buttery and soft, the refried beans are velvety smooth, the house made tortilla chips are savory and crunchy, the avocado chunks are decadent, and the bits of onion and cilantro are the perfect finishing touch. Make sure to add a generous heaping of the fresh salsa from the open bucket. We eat them literally every Saturday for brunch and never get tired of them. Important: it's cash only!
Batter Bakery: They sell quality, delicious baked goods. Cookies, quick breads, muffins, and other seasonal goodies. You can really tell from one bite that the ingredients are premium. I appreciate that they source most of their produce from local vendors. My go-to item is a slice of banana chocolate chip quickbread - SO good with a cup of espresso. Gluten conscious and vegan options are also available.
Tips & Tricks
There is limited parking in the area, so use public transportation if you can. BART, Muni, and Ferry accessible.
Get there early as this one can get crowded, especially on beautiful days (a frequent occurrence in SF).
Save some time to explore the inside of the Ferry Building as well.
There are restrooms in the Ferry Building but the lines can get super long.
